Preparing Your AC for the Spring and Summer Months

We all know that it can get in Texas, especially in the spring and summer months. Temperatures can reach 90 degrees in the peak of summer. This can make it unbearable to be indoors without air conditioning to keep you cool. As the spring months begin, it is time to begin preparing your AC for the hot summer weather. Below, we will give you a spring maintenance checklist to follow to ensure your air conditioning system is working its best.

  • Replace Air Filter: Your air filter is responsible for clearing out dust, debris, and other particles out of the air in your home. Over time, this can get clogged and prevent the AC unit from functioning at peak performance. Replace the filter to ensure your air conditioning system can effectively filter dust, pollen, allergens, and other contaminants out of the air.

  • Clean Outside Unit: The area around your unit needs to be clear and clean so the unit can function properly. Clear out any tall grass around the unit, and clean the exterior of it of any leaves, dirt, and debris it has.

  • Check Your Refrigerant Levels: Your refrigerant is how your air conditioning system cools your home. If it is low, it cannot effectively cool your home. Check your coolant levels and refill as needed. If you have a leak, contact your local HVAC company to perform the necessary repairs.

  • Check Belts: Your AC utilizes belts that are connected to your blower. If they become cracked or worn out, your air conditioner will no longer work. Inspect them and replace them as needed.

  • Professional AC Contractor Inspection & Tune-Up: While you can perform some maintenance on your own, nothing compares to what a professional provides. They have in-depth knowledge of ACs and experience handling repairs. They will ensure everything is working properly and that you will be cool this summer.
