FAQs

HVAC FAQs

Our HVAC systems are complicated systems that are responsible for regulating the temperature in our properties. They typically consist of our furnace, air conditioner, and/or heat pump. When it comes to servicing them, we have many questions. We are here to answer some of them for you.

  • How can I improve the air quality in my home?

The air quality in your home is important. Better air quality means that you are less likely to be sick, your home will be less dusty, and you will breathe easier. Doing simple things like changing your HVAC system’s air filter, cleaning your floor and rugs, and getting your vents cleaned.

  • What is a heat pump?

A heat pump is a heating and cooling system in one piece of equipment. There are all-electric and dual-fuel types of heat pumps. Sometimes, they are not enough to heat a home to your desired temperature. So, they may be supplemented by an electric or gas furnace.

  • How often should I have my HVAC system serviced?

We generally recommend that you have your HVAC system serviced twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. This gives you the opportunity to have your heating system checked before the cool temperatures of the winter months and your air conditioning to be tuned before the hot temperatures of the summer.

  • How long do air conditioning systems last?

Every unit is different, but most last between 15 and 20 years. The factors that impact how long they last are how often they are used and how often maintenance is performed.

  • How often do I need to replace my HVAC filter?

Generally, air filters should be replaced every month or two months. If someone in your home has respiratory issues or you have a high number of allergens, you may have to do it more often.

  • How often should I have my furnace cleaned?

Your furnace should be cleaned annually. This will improve its performance and energy efficiency. Most manufacturers have warranties that are contingent upon annual service being completed on the unit.

  • Why is my AC frozen?

Your AC should never be frozen. If it has components that are encased in ice, you have an issue. You likely have low refrigerant levels or a refrigerant leak. This will prevent your air conditioner from working as efficiently as possible and can damage your AC extensively.

  • What are some tips for reducing my energy bills?

Heating and cooling bills can be a large expense for property owners. There are some things you can do to reduce your energy bills. They include installing a programmable thermostat, insulating your home, and getting your ventilation cleaned.

  • How long will my HVAC service take?

Your HVAC service will depend on what work you need to be done. There is no specific timeframe for any service. After we inspect the HVAC system, we will provide you with an estimate of how long the service will take.

  • How do I know when my AC needs to be replaced?

Air conditioners will generally last 15 to 20 years. Some signs that indicate you need to replace your air conditioner include a lack of cool air, cooling costs increasing, strange noises coming from the unit, and strange odors.

  • How do I know when my furnace needs to be replaced?

Furnaces that are more than 15 years old, making strange noises, and not warming your home enough may need to be replaced. You may also find that your home is dustier than usual and your heating costs have gone up.
